Geologists mostly work in the petroleum industry.
Most engineering jobs are going to china because it is cheaper.
Try something in healthcare where you don't have to deal directly with patients. e.g. medical equipment.

Geologists can work as engineers or geologists.
Engineering, depending on which type of engineer, may not be as flexible, however, they are highly wanted by many industries.
