I work a lot with arthritis patients in the water. Aquatics can relieve a lot of the pain as well as strengthen muscles to take the burden off the joints.
When celebrex and vioxx was being taken off the market my students were worried. One of the men brought in articles from the University of Michigan concerning their work with tart cherry juice and how it helps with gout and arthritis. He had been drinking the juice and having good results. Problem is that people get sick of the juice and it is high in natural sugar. One of the ladies went on line and did some research and found CHERRYFLEX which is a capsule with cherry pulp in it. Only 2 carbs a capsule I think. You can check them out at CHERRYFLEX. com. They will also gladly speak with you on the phone. When my students were having good success with the product I decided to stop my Bextra and try it. Because it is natural it takes at least a month to kick in. I reduced my Bextra by half and took 1 capsule daily for 2 weeks and then stopped the Bextra completely. I also take glucosamine, chondroitin & MSM combo. All I can tell you is my knees are not perfect, but are better than they were on the drugs. I do work out daily in the water and take the Cherryflex and above combo faithfully. I can squat and do stairs better than I did 5 years ago. Keep in mind that not everything works for everyone. One of my ladies takes 3 Cherryflex a day, but that is what it takes to help her. As with anything - check with your doctor before taking anything. And if not in an exercise program - try water - it will make a HUGE difference in your life. Good luck and feel better.

I'm a pharmacist so I'm not really big on natural products. However there are some data that show the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin may help mild to moderate arthritis. It doesn't work over night, but it may show some benefit after a month or so. As for over the counter drugs, there isn't much. Common wisdom is to try tylenol (or generic acetamenophen) first since it is the safest drug to take. If that isn't effective than NSAIDs are the next rational step, if you dont have any contraindications to them such as heart problems, heartburn/GERD, or any other propensity to bleeding. The most commonly used OTC NSAIDs are Aleve (naproxen sodium) and Motrin.(ibuprofen). These drugs used at the approved OTC dosing guidelines are effective for mild to moderate arthritis. They should not be taken for a long term without consulting your physician. If the arthritis is severe than you should see an MD so that more potent medications can be used.

Try Glucosomine Sulphate. You can get it with Condroitin and MSN. Don't bother with the condroitin. It costs more but the molecule is too big for the body to be able to absorb. the glucomsomine will help to build the cartilage in your joints. The MSN is a pain reliever and antiinflamatory. It can take up to a month before you notice an improvement but for me it worked in 3 days. I had a lot of problems with my knees, now when they start to bother me, I take glucosomine for a week or two and I'm good for a long time.
There are also things like extra strength Ibuprofen which is also a pain reliever and antiinflamatory. There is Tylenol for Arthritis, you can get ASA for arthritis too.
There are a lot of prescription drugs like Diclofenac, Celebrex and others.
Hope this helps and that you feel better.

This is an internal problem not so much external. In order to take care of the problem it's to begin at the root rather than the branches if you know what i mean. The best way to deal with this ailment and probably never feel the symptons again lies in your what he eats. From some research, if you become a vegan, you will not suffer from this. Especially dairy - eggs, cheese, milk worsens the condition and many cases there have been where people stop eating these and no longer suffer from this terrible ailment. Also, meat contains uric acid which in essense is urine. This accumulates in the joints which in turn causes swelling and pain. You should control your intake of acid foods and eat things in their more natural state. Avoid caffeine (coffee, teas [herbal tea is fine], chocolate, and soft drinks!). Eat plenty of leafy greens, vegetables, fruits and whole grain foods. Stay away from the refined/bleached & processed foods. Exercise and get some sunshine and fresh air as well as drink plenty of water (not tap water). Do some research on the proper acid/alkaline balance of your body, diseases thrive on an acid environment so you want to have the right balance. He can be cured, but you have to be disciplined. Many people sacrifice their health for their taste buds, its definitely worth living happy and healthy even if you have to stop eating things that you really enjoy. You will get accustomed to a better diet and will begin to enjoy it. I started at around 14 yrs of age to change my diet. Now I am a vegan, and let me tell you food is very enjoyable without having to include a carcass on your plate. If he is willing to live without the pain and discomfort, he has the power to do so just by changing his eating habits and lifestyle. Don't always trust the doctors either as they are trained to give you drugs and make you think that that is the only solution. Many people die this way when it never need be so. Any questions let me know. Wish you the best!

I have not found any medication that helps. What helps me most is warm water exercise. I go three times per week and when I stop, I can really tell the difference. I have also discontinued use of my multiple vitamins and started taking Magnesium, Vita B, and acidophilus instead. I have been doing this for two weeks and can already tell the difference. I did not realize that some of the ingredients in the vitamin kept magnesium from absorbing in your system

Ok, believe it or not this has worked for countless people so far. Go to the store and buy some "Certo" they use it to make jelly. Put 3 teaspoons in a glass of grape juice and drink it. I dont think it matters how big a glass of juice is. Do this for 2 or 3 weeks. This is no joke! Not even Dr. Gott ( see source below) can explain it.

Well, clinicaly, glucosamine is given to restore the natural lubricants in the knee joint. It can be bought ove the counter. As for pain and discomfort, Take ibuprofin as needed or If that doesnt help, see your physician. They can give you better pain meds.
