The Netherlands (a.k.a. Holland), has a driver's course that teaches how to escape from a car that has driven into one of the many dikes.
The following steps are tought:
1) take off your shoes
2) do not panic sit still and wait
3) wait for the car to slowly fill with water.,
4) there will be enough to breathe neath the ceiling.
5) the door cannot be opened because the outside water presses tightly againtr the air-filled car. The rising water, in the car will eventually equalise with the water pressure outside the car., when the pressures, (inside & outside), are roughly equal you can open the car door.
7) Take several deep breaths,
8) Hold the last breath ,
9)open the car door and exit the car.
10)swim up to the surface.
11) Swim to shore,

If the depth of the wate is greater than 50 feet. Exhale a little of the air in your lungs. Air expands as you rise and too much expansion could rupture your lungs.

If there are "absolutely no possible" escape routes, then you can't roll down the windows or escape through the open moon-roof or through the open convertible top, all of which would be possibilities if you hadn't added the second last line in your puzzle. The usual expression would be a "submerging" or "sinking" car. If this is what you meant, then we're back to the point i raised above. If you really meant "drowning", then the answer might be "The car's drowning, I'm not, what's the problem?" but that seems rather trivial.

first of all, as cars don't breathe, they can't drown; they sink, but i get your drift.

just because at that moment there is no possible way to escape, that doesn't mean that there won't be one shortly. read on.

I believe what you do is wait for the car to fill up with water, then you will be able to open the door. i suggest you don't wait until there's absolutely no air left. also, try not to panic while you're waiting, because you're going to have to hold your breath to get to the surface, and the faster you're heart is beating, the more oxygen you use. even if you could break the window, i wouldn't suggest doing that, the water would rush in way too quickly...i'd try to lower it a bit and let it rush in in a controlled way. plus, when i did get out i'd try to get my feet on it and get a good push towards the top, so i could get there faster.

You can't do this with electric, but with the manuel windows, roll them down. However, you might be able to push down electric windows, especially if they are a little loose. Known to be done.

On second thought since you said drowning, You wait until the tow truck comes and picks you up, or pop the hood, get out of the car, and flick the gas filter lid to put a little air in.it. After all, car get flooded all the time without being in water.

Cars don't drown, just because doors are shut doesn't mean they won't open. I'm not sure but now I am going to look at the answers. :)

I would IMAGINE that I could breathe water, so there would be no problem!

Actually...shucks if i'm going to IMAGINE.... I might was well imagine that I have Superman's powers, so I could fly up out of the water and bring the car with me, then turn it uspide down to pour all the water out of it and use my heat vision (carefully) to dry it out. (Even thought I can fly, I might want to use the car again later.)

Get on the phone and call for help, then wait calmly.

Wait a minute ... a "drowning" car? I think you meant sinking ... cars can't drown 'cause they don't breathe.
