Castles and moats became obsolete, starting in the 1500's, and were dead as a dodo (mostly) in the 1600's.
The cause was the perfection of the cannon. Cannon were used , in the West, as early as the battle of Crecy, France in 1346, in the 100 years War.
They were improved in the next century, and were the chief factor in the Moslem capture of the Byzantine empire at the siege of Constantinople. 1453 Cannon battered down the very thick defensive walls that had survived numerous attacks for hundreds of years.
By the 1600's cannon could batter any castle to rubble.
In the English Civil War, Cromwells forces (a siege train of cannon), demolished almost half the castles in England in about two years.) He destroyed every castle that he laid siege to.
The defensive measure against the cannon's smashing effectiveness was packed sloping earth berms and "walls". And forts of the 1600", & 1700's all have lines of zig-zagging sloped multiple "concentric" walls. These surrounded low lying, less exposed redoubts. (with many defensive cannon).
Also castles became prohibitively expensive from the 1400"s onward. (they were never cheap.)
Before cannon, castles were almost impreganble.
one castle on the Welsh marches withstood a 5 or 6 month Welsh siege with only 24 men inside, defending it.

properly, how might one attack a type of? Assuming you probably did not have air help which might merely thoroughly neutralize the risk, you may ought to apply floor forces. So, you deliver up tanks to furnish suppressive hearth and blow a pair holes interior the wall. have you ever seen a cannon hit an Abrams? It does not do lots Then an APC or 2 rolls up and "swims" around the moat. They sell off their adult males who safeguard the gate residing house, allowing the tanks and their .50 cals to roll in. Then the courtyard is taken and the adult males can actual circulate room to room and clean the fort. So a "citadel" isn't very smart in immediately's warfare. additionally, for the time of WWII, the French equipped forts. you recognize what the Germans did? They ran around them and took Paris. Forts are very table certain. it fairly is robust while the well-known public of the army has to stroll each the place and can get shot on the completed time. yet not once you are able to merely zoom around them and get what you're after. i'm hoping this helps.

I think because their too expensive. How many forts can they make with that much material? Its a WASTE of material. Moats their tanks that can make bridges in 10-20 minutes to set up and it uses very little space to store.

they built castles and moats to stay protected from public enemies, we don't have enemies living around us like they use to, except for terrorist attacks, but castles and moats can't protect us from bombs and falling plains, right! ;)

Bacause they were built for defensive purposes. They did not have missiles and modern weapons back then. Also, the cost to build these structures today would be staggering. We do not have slave labor or feudal systems in place to make them feasible.
