If you think about it. Under the hood is generally where the engine get the air it breathes. The air there is pretty hot. You figure the radiator, exhaust manifolds, and engine are producing heat durring operation of the engine.
Air expands as it gets hot. The more air you get into the combustion chamber, the more power you will get. That's why in the days of "Classic" muscle cars thay had cowl induction, and hood scoops to get the coolest possible air they could. Some people today use nitrous oxide in their cars for more power by super cooling the air coming in to the intake of the engine.
Punching a hole for fresh, cooler air will give you some improvement in perfomance and mileage. But not a whole lot.
Good luck.

A cold air intake is a system used to bring down the temperature of the air going into a car for the purpose of increasing the power of the internal-combustion engine. A secondary goal is to increase the appeal of a car by changing the appearance of a car's engine bay and creating an attractive intake noise. These aftermarket parts come in many different colors and many different sizes, and are an inexpensive way to increase performance.

Your engine needs fuel, air, and heat to run. The thinking behind cold air intake is that it allows cooler air to enter the combustion chamber. Cool air is more dense and thus has more oxygen to burn the fuel that it is mixed with. This results in more power and better fuel economy since there is less unburned fuel in your exhaust after ignition.

It won't make much difference in power, but it will be noisier....
Its supposed to allow the engine to take air in easier which would result in more power....you might gain 1/2 hp, but the gain would be mostly in your head.
I work in detroit on these stupid things...apart from allowing air into the engine, they have to be quiet, and they have to prevent water and snow from getting in the engine....if you live where there is lots of rain be careful with your cold air intake, because it will allow water in the engine easier and destroy your engine.

cold air intake is too let cold air mix with the fuel and it burns better ! you also get more out of your fuel better milage and when it burns in the piston chamber gets a better burst of power !

It takes in more air...colder air(Makes a better spark/explosion in the combustian process) And it will add a few horse power/lb-ft torque. No if anything it will give u better milage.
