Cuttle bones are usually just assist in keeping the beak trimmed. Honestly, I've never had one in any of my parrots cages. I've had dozens in my lifetime. I don't know if that makes me a bad father, but they all lived past expected life cycles.

The only nutritional in a cuttle bone .. is calcium... this helps produce the shell of the egg. But if they eat too much of it and the eggs are fertile, it's possible the egg shell becomes too thick and you will end up with dead babies in the shells because they couldn't break out.

Hah.. 8 a month does seem crazy. I had a love bird that would lay about 3 or so every.. month or two. No other birds have I had that lay any eggs. Maybe the rest were boys? ;)

The parakeet's surroundings are perfect for her to lay eggs. This can be dangerous for her if she continues to lay so many eggs. Even with a cuttle bone and a calcium block in her cage, she will continue to deplete the rest of vital nutrients that she needs. You could start to help her by not giving her so much daylight (cover her cage for a few hours a day). Make sure to buy some vitamins for her and add them to her water, but make sure to change the water after a few hours as the water will spoil. If there are other birds in the room, consider putting her in quarantine for a couple of weeks. Also, let her sit on a clutch for a few weeks. She will soon realize that they are not furtile and she will push the aside. This should stimulate her enough to get her to quit laying so many eggs, or get her to quit laying the all together.

Lots of female birds will lay eggs. Just look at chickens! lol Doesn't matter if there's a male around or not! Nothing to worry about.

Cuttlebones are good for her. leave it in cages and replace as needed.
