If you had a girlfriend that you were not close to but knew. Would you date the guy she was just seeing?

This guy I met at my friends wedding decided to talk to this other girl instead of me first. He claims he really wanted to talk to me but I was busy with my friends wedding. Well he spoke to her for about 6 months and it didn't work. Now I have seen him at a white linen party and we exchanged numbers. She calls him upset I'm I wrong??
