I have a song in iTunes that I would like to add to a slideshow but it needs to be in MP3 format. How can I do this?

you don't save a song in MP3 format. It comes in MP3 format

Easiest way, I've found, is play it in Audacity www.audacity.com I think mine been here forever read the how to it'll tell ya how to save it in MP3! Good luck!

Just simply write .mp3.
