Is it not a man's job to take out trash and mow the lawn? I'm southern and that's the way I was brought up. My husband is from the west coast and believes that it's a woman's job to do both because he works all day long.

Well it's not that's he's from the west coast i'm not saying that in a bad way. It's just that we were raised totally differently. And the bad part about all this is that I just found out i'm 5 weeks pregnant and he's telling me I should still do all this. NO he doesn't cook or do laundry either lol. He comes home from work and gets on his new $1,000.00 computer. I wouldn't mind doing it but I can't do all of it.

Funny you bring this up. Not only did my best friend and I, BUT my mom and I talked about this SAME thing the other day!

Take this from 3 California girls....
IT IS A MAN'S JOB TO DO THAT!

Take out the trash, mow the lawn and general LARGE garden work, and anything having to do with hammers or power tools.
But that's not inclusive. They can share in all other aspects of keeping house and home! Working all day long is NO EXCUSE. Most of the women in this country work all day as well and they do their "chores"!

Tell him to get over himself.

It's definitely a man's job. Like me, I don't work, I stay at home all day and do all the chores but take out the trash and mow the lawn. I know my husband works hard all day but some things require a man's doing.

I come from the mid west south and believed somewhat like your husband as that is what the culture promotes. However, since relocating to the west coast, I believe that there are not gender specific duties. I clean house better than most women, cook gourmet, wash my own dishes, have had three children that i assisted in all three c-sections, did the 10-2-4 feedings and diapers, then worked driving large class earth moving vehicles and multi unit vehicles, using a shovel, coming home the duties have to be done and the sooner we get them done we can get to the important business of playing with the kids putting them to bed sharing a glass of wine in front of the fireplace and a good night kiss. Most never get to the best part because they are too concerned whose job it is. It doesn't really matter does it. Get it done and enjoy the best part of life, your family.

I've done my share of lawn mowing and carrying out trash but I think its a mans job to do the heavy work. I think that chores should be split between the husband and wife. But a man is physically more capable of doing the heavy work. Especially if your pregnant.

well when you are married the responsibilities should be 50/50 no matter when you live or how you were brought up. unless you really like to mow the lawn and take out the trash. im guessing he does the laundry and cooks right?

Blame the feminist movement from the '60's. Women (not all, of course) wanted to prove they can do anything a man can do.
When it comes to the trach or the lawn, my wife always has me do it. I don't mind. Some men are just lazy and love to use any excuse they can.

I don't think it's anybody's "job" to do it. Chores should be split equally if you both work full-time. If one person works and the other doesn't, the one without the job should do more of the chores.

He didn't learn that from being raised on the west coast. He learned that purely from being lazy.
