It's obvious that you have never had to deal with addiction. I hope that you never do. But if you should find that you or someone you love ends up in a battle with addiction to any substance, especially nicotine, try to be a little more understanding. It would help them a lot.
I stopped smoking a few times during 25 years as a smoker. The last time was 7 years ago. It was more difficult than I can explain to you. I still crave nicotine everyday. I guess I always will. It isn't habit. It isn't weak will. It is a physical dependence on a substance. Feeling a lot like the need for food. When you are hungry very little can distract you from the ache for food.
Following your reasoning I suppose we should kill you too since you are going to die one day, so what good are you to any of us? Can you see another side to this now?

Hello and first I respect your believing the way you do, however that is a oxie-moron, that is it does not matter, let me explain, you said it is killing someone to smoke and that is true it does short your life somewhat, however it does not really matter to look out about dying because everyone on this planet will to that, die. If you and I do not personaly have A saving relationship with Jesus which is the only Way to get out of the grave everyone is walking it, we are living on probation time that the second member of the God head, so you and I can have time to decide, but we never know when that time is up, I tell you this out of love and concern because you are concerned about death is okay but the focus is on the subject, think rather on the Way out, God Bless you in your life, questions wgr88@yahoo.com Free Bible lessons www.itiswritten.com

well lets see.....addiction??????? what in the hell is wrong with people? we spend so much time busting on people for smoking ciggerates. they smoke for the same reason some people drink till they puke while others eat till they puke.addiction!!i think its great they have the anti smoking ads for kids its a nasty habit.but so is alot of other things.yet we make someone who smokes feel like s**t . go ask alcholics why they still drink though their livers are rotted or a heavy set person why they still eat everything in site even though their blood pressure and sugar are sky high. now heres my question for you. should we just put all whine asses out of their misery now since they will eventually b**ch themselves to death some day any way?

For the same reason that obesity is such an issue. Just because we know what is good for us, doesn't mean we have the self control or discipline to make the *right* decision. Especially when we know that the consequences won't come until a lot further down the road.
It is the typical human trait of wanting instant gratification over waiting for the long term payoff.

It is in my opinion the most addictive substance on earth. I've observed heroin addicts cured in 3 days with no desire, but can't give up the smoke. Smoking feels good. Be more supportive about the quitting issue and perhaps you could change someone's life. It is physically and pyschologically addictive. Being ugly doesn't work with anybody. Good luck.

They are addicted to the pesticide, nicotine, in the cigarettes. Most people just say that they love it too much--even though they almost cough up a lung each time they smoke--because it is easier than trying to quit.

It becomes a habit, like drinking coffee everyday. After a lot of years habits are very hard to break!

It is very very addictive. Oral fixation. Not that easy for everyone. I don't smoke and can't image how difficult it must be to stop. Yes it is very bad for your health and those around them.
