You shouldn't take a lot. Pack as though you were going away for a couple of days: a change or two of clothes, toiletries, comfortable shoes. It make take a couple of days to get your initial uniform issue so you'll be doing whatever you have to do in your "civies". Once you get your uniforms issued, all of you personal gear gets stored and you won't see it again until you leave for your AIT. Resist the urge to take anything except the bare essentials with you. Too many personal belongings are not only a hassle to deal with, but they're hard to keep up with, they become a lot of excess weight that you'll have to carry with you when you go to transfer, and they tend to unnecessarily draw the attention of your Drill Instructor, something you will not enjoy. Once you get to your AIT or your first base, you can have your personal belongings shipped by the government to you. Your recruiter should also be able to provide you with a list of what and what not to bring.

Ask your recruiter how many days you will be at the ?MEPS? station, which is a holding area where they group people before they send groups to their basic training facility. You need clothing for at least that many days plus maybe one more day at the basic training facility. Remember that you will not go into your basic training unit immediately. You will go to a holding company, which will take you around to different places to get your uniforms, shots, and to make sure you can do a minimum number of push-ups and sit-ups. Also, you should bring any medication you need, maybe a bar of soap, a wash cloth and a towel for that one day at basic before you get your stuff.

When I joined the Army, it was just toiletries, like soap, toothbrush and paste, and Razor. You could need some civilian clothes for those passes, but everything else the Army will provide for you.
They don't call our guys G.I.s for nothing, it's because everything thing they have is Government Issue.

Your recruiter will give you a list of the things that you will need to bring with you.
Trust bring just what is on the list because everything else will be donated or shipped back home.
Don't wear your best jeans and shirt because they will be donated.

unless on the list don't bring towels or hairdryers you will get just about everything execpt underware and things like that. socks

Your local Army recruiter will tell you that, If you are thinking of enlisting, thank you in advance for your service. A Military career can be very honorable.

you probably don't have to bring anything at all. All your clothing and equipment are provided by the army, the only stuff you'd need to bring would be personal effects.
