If by "event", you mean something of greater than just personal significance, I was 8 years old in 1986 when the space shuttle Challenger was destroyed. My teacher brought a television to school so we could watch Challenger lift off with its crew and an elementary school teacher aboard. I watched it explode along with the rest of my classmates. I'd always wanted to be an astronaut, and there was the evidence right in front of me that people *died* doing what I wanted to do. It was my first experience of death by unnatural causes. I did a lot of growing up that day.

Second on my list, I think, would be 9/11. Aside from the shock and horror that I felt along with everyone else, I also had a healthy scare that day. I was a graduate student at the U of I at the time, and there was a great deal of concern that our supercomputer was on the terrorists' target list. (You might scoff at that, but the Soviet Union had the U of I campus on its nuclear missile target list because of the supercomputer.)

Apart from 9-11, the day John Lennon died. I don't mean to compare the two. The terrible events of 9-11 are the worst in my memory, and I pray there will never be any worse to come. My heart can't bear all the pain in this world as it is. I suffer when I learn of the death of a child. I suffer when I hear of thousands dead in a quake or flood. I suffer when I hear of the hundreds of thousands dead in the Indonesian tsunami.

I suffer when I hear of atrocities committed by men all over the world.

I suffered when I learned Lennon had been murdered. A faint reverberation of "Give Peace a Chance" still resonates in my mind, but it grows dimmer with each new report of terrible things that man does to man.

when I accepted Jesus as my savior He makes a big difference in my life he is forever changing the gears in my life like one day he asks me to ministers to people at work then he'll tell me to pray for someone in paticular. each day it gets harder and yet easier. he alway tends to my needs and wants.like after my wifes death he sent people to comfort me and help me in anyway then as of recent he put an angel in my lap so I could take care of and love in sickness and in health and next year we are getting married and I praise him daily for that.
