start with running short distances, then walking a longer distance. As you get into better shape, you shuld be able to run for longer. Start off using a treadmill or running on dirt or grass, it is much easier on your joints than the pavement.
Good luck, and happy running.

Start slowly - have to walk before you can run. Also, should try getting rid of a few pounds by dieting in conjunction w/ your walking, then after you've built up your stamina, start w/ a soft jog first, then slowly build your way up. You must have patience - muy importante!! Don't give up because you're not seeing the results you want in a certain time frame, this will take quite some time. Always check w/ your physician before starting any heavy exercising anyway. Good luck!!

First, get the ok from your doctor before getting started. Dr might also have some suggestions for you. Then get fitted for a good pair of running shoes. Don't just buy a pair out at Payless or Meijers. A good pair of shoes helps give your joints the added support you need.
I also recommend starting out on a treadmill. This way, you can gradually pace yourself, and when you feel like you can't go on, you don't have to worry about how you'll get home :-)
After you feel like you've gotten to a good pace, head outdoors. Its always more fun to explore the good outdoors. Plus, you aren't restricted to gym hours :-) Good Luck and have fun!!!

First things first, Start off slow and dont kill yourself early. If you are asking how to stay interested, Try running trails. It always helps me when I lose interested. Also, running with friends and music help as well. Try running a mile for the first week, then add a half mile the next week until you get to three miles, then go from there as needed.
