if you dance like grover then you are not folloing the beat at all. Look dancing is all in what you feel and how you respond to the music stop listening to the words. Listen to the beat the snare the base the high hat listen to every thing but the words and move and stay on point to the rhythem of the music NOT THE WORDS!

I've been dancing for a long time, since I was in a folk dance troupe at college, and I've learned that if you can follow the rhythm you can dance to anything. Moving in time is everything: if you can go with the flow you can relax and improvise. Counting is ok but artificial, and it slows you down, and you're so intent on concentrating on the count that you can't enjoy what you are doing or interact with your partner. The best practice is just to listen to the music at home and move in sync to the beat.

Uh...no. I can't follow the snare sound, and I don't even know what counting steps are. People who can do the Grover dance better than me.

As they say in Jazz - you've either got it or you don't. Try sitting, beating your hands on your knees to the music, pick up the repeated rhythm phrases, and then listen for the polyrhythms that weave in and out of that foundation. Rhythm is more than beats - it has also the quality of melody. Or at least it does in good stuff, by which I don't mean most of the garbage I hear.

It kind of depends on the type of music, but most of the time I just go with the flow. Grover is cool! Don't be ashamed!

I don't believe I was born with rhythm in me when it comes to dancing unfortunately, however I do like to do it. I go to Hip Hop classes and my teacher has taught me to dance to the back beat (I don't know the technical name) and that seems to work.

Depends on the kind of dance. I mostly do Irish. Therefore I base my rhythmic movents on the cadence of the music (like the singing of words to a song only with my feet).

I was always told you should listen to the kick drum and the bass guitar. Those two instruments lay down the rhythm of a song, and that's what you should follow....then again, I'm klutzy as hell, but I used to play bass.

I have my own movements that go with the song.I defiantly don't count steps, that's for learners, isn't it? I move all over not stand in one spot.I like the way I dance and have been complimented several times.
