it depends on age and level of fitness, after 6 weeks the uterus has contracted back down, so u can start tummy exercises again. not before as u could hurt ur self, also if u had a c section talk to ur doc before doing any tummy exercises. start off slow and gentle. there is no magic no of months before it goes, and it wont go by itself for many ppl, u have to work it back into shape, get advice from a professional before starting any new exercise routine as u need to be sure u r doing it right. ur tummy has been stretching for 9-10 months it wont just pop back to normal, think of a balloon that has been blown up as big as it can then let down, it will never be the same shape as the new balloons in the bag.

It all depends on your size pre-pregnancy, your exercise habits and most of all... your mother! You couldn't tell I'd ever been pregnant as soon as the next day after my son was born. But, I exercised my entire pregnancy and am small to begin with. Plus, that's what happened to my mom when she had her first born (me!). I also breastfed my son. It burns as much as 500 extra calories a day, so it helps you lose that extra weight a little faster.
