Thrillers, Mystery, Suspense, Murder and Detectives is what I read. You could start with Patricia Cornwall, she has written a series of books about a Virginia Chief Medical Examiner featuring Kay Scarpetta. Here is a list of many:
Sue Grafton; Kay Hooper; James Patterson; Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb; Tami Hoag; Jeffrey Deaver; Michael Connelly; Tess Garretson and Iris Johansen. There are so many more out there, I hope this will help you.

If you like Mary Higgins Clark, you might also like Iris Johansen. She writes murder mysteries, usually with a male and female lead character, but not terribly heavy on the romance.

A Tempest In Time by Julia Franks
Nice reading! Fiction a little scary but good! Found her by accident while looking for a book with similar title. When the book arrived I was surprised but I figured I should go ahead and read it since it was here. That was 2 days ago and I'm nearly finished. Been a while since I read anything and I don't believe I have ever read a book so fast. Once I got started! I couldn't put it down, keeps you moving! Good Luck with the finding!

My favorite book of the Bible is Romans. I'd start there, if you plan on reading it since so many others have suggested it.
If you are looking for mystery, I suggest the Mrs. Pollifax series by Dorothy Gilman.
If you want just general fiction I suggest the authors Penelope Stokes, Melody Carlson, and Robert Louis Stevenson.

This isn't a mystery but it has elements of suspense - it's a true story. It is called "Three Against Hitler" and is about Helmuth Huebener, Rudi Wobbe and another friend, who as Mormon teenagers organized a local resistance to Hitler and the Nazis by distributing pamphlets describing what was really going on in World War II to their German neighbors. At least one of them paid for this indiscretion with his life, but I won't tell you who or what happened. The author is Rudi Wobbe himself, and it has 184 pages, published by Covenant Communications.

You could try James Patterson, his Women's Murder Club series or his Alex Cross series, both are very good. And as someone said about Patricia Cornwell she's awesome! There's Carla Neggers also she's good.
