Your question contains a portion of the current pledge of allegiance. The words "under God" were not added untl 1954. The original pledge was written by a Christian Socialist and later modified.
Our founding fathers, especially Thomas Jefferson, understood how a state religion could be used to deny freedoms or create an alternative form of government within the government. One of my favorite Jefferson quotes is as follows: "But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." Here's another: "Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity."

People don't want to speak up when it comes to taking up for GOD. You are right about this country be founded on Christianity. If you look back far enough in the history of the United States, you will find out that George Washington and others were Christians and believed in the almighty GOD. They prayed for guidance every time the had a war or a meeting. Did you know that they prayed about the constitution before and while it was being written. People have a choice weather to pray or not. Some people want to take that choice away for the ones of us who believe in GOD.

Although "separation of church and state" is not mentioned in the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, or any other important federal government document it is thought of as being there. Put up a cross and it will have to be removed because it could offend somebody, but broadcast smut and vulgarity over the public airwaves or show a revealing picture on a bill board in public and who cares who that offends. Equality and justice FOR ALL is something that has been selectively policed in recent years.
I know somebody is going to bring up personal writings of Jefferson but remember Jefferson also had slaves, should we have slaves? No, that is why it was not put in the Constitution. It was written by a group of men that thought it out. The term has even evolved from separating church and state to now separating God and country.

I am not religious, so I have no reason to defend the inclusion of God in public life, except for the fact that references to God are part of our heritage, and were the intention of the Founding Fathers.
"In God We Trust" is written on our currency. The Ten Commandments are written on the wall in the Supreme Court. When a President is sworn into office, he places his hand on a bible.
Our country was founded on a Judeo-Christian ethic. The Declaration of Independence mentions that we are endowed by our Creator (god) with certain inalienable rights.
There is a common misconception. Our government was founded on the principle of freedom OF religion, not FROM religion. They did not intend to remove the freedom of religious expression. They forgot that religious freedom is one of the main reasons the Pilgrims came here!
The Constitution only mentions that the government shall not establish a state religion.

1) We Americans don't know what it means to stand up for anything anymore, unless it is advertised right.
2) This country was founded by old white Christians, who believed that the Govt should have NO say in what people should believe. It does not say that noone can believe, it says everyone can believe what they want, and that the govt can never declare a national religion.
3) I am a Christian, and I do believe that the Govt should have nothing to do with the Church, And I do not believe that others who disagree with my thoughts should be forced to put up with them. BUT I do believe that I should have full right to believe and practice my believes, just like anyone else. If a polititician wants to say he is Christian, fine, he may loose or gain votes because of it, but whatever. Honestly, I think that the govt, if it had more to do with the church, would start making christians look really bad.

I think we should leave religion and religious influences out of government decisions. I do think our President should be a sincere (not fake) God fearing person. I do think we should leave the 10 commandments and prayer in our schools.
It gives people hope and lets them know how to treat others.
Prayer does work and the 10 commandments are good for every belief system.

No this country was founded by a group of misfits from European countries who came here to avoid religious persecution and separated church and state for that reason. Jesus said " Give to Cesar the things that are Cesar's and to God the things that are Gods" God does not expect a country to be religious for Jesus also said "Go into your closet and pray"

The government isn't taking God out of everything. Its the ACLU and the people they represent that is going after the government to remove God. So for any finger pointing, please look in the right direction.

if anything god is instilled even deeper in our nation now than it was when it was founded. religion and belief systems are a huge aspects of our government and officials. maybe they should actually separate church and state kinda like it was intended. and our nation was acutaully based on liberty and freedom, not god. but it was because of that great being that we are all here today, so thank him plenty but dont expect him to run our government.
