I have always gone with 1 gal to 1 inch of fish. I too had oscars in a smaller tank, when I moved them they grew alot!! No gold fish! Stick with the pellets, just gold fish will cause hole in the head. I stopped feeding mine goldfish and the hole in the head has almost gone away!! He is also more active!! Give your Oscar more room!! He will love you for it!

About a 75 is good. Unfortunatly, good for 1. 1 inch per gallon works for slim bodied, not mess fish under 4", none of these the oscars fit into Also, get good filtration. A wet-dry sump is great though eheim cannisters and aquaclear power filters will do a similar job, with a few powerheads breaking water surface. Also, an oscar will grow to the size of the tank it's in. Just not the internal organs, they keep on growing. Guess what happens then.
By the way, carbon is useless. In such a small tank, it may be earning its keep by absorbing foul odors and such, but in an ok sotcked tank with good filtration, replace it with some filter floss, or more bio-media to get better results
Finally, kudos on the 30% daily change. SOme people do that monthly! Though maybe a bit unecessary in an ok tank, water changes are the best filtration available, and i stongly advise u to continue with your regime, or at least 2-3 times a week. As long as your water is good, and u are dechlorinating, the oscars water wont change much Filters dont get rid of nitrate. Also, do u know about fishless cyling? It is the most harmless cycling method around.http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=113861&hl=

It OK size, but, the larger the tank the better. I have had a pair 10 inch in a 29 gallon they did OK. Now I have a 30 gallon with new Oscars they have grown well and are about 4 inch now. I hope when they Bigger to build them a 50 gallon. But, I know the 30 be OK.

An 8 inch Oscar does not belong in a 20 gallon tank. You definatly need to keep smaller fish or a bigger tank. I would suggest at LEAST 55 for an Oscar. You need as much filtration as possible as Oscars are quite messy.

OSCARS NEED 70 GALLONS PER FISH. You cannot go by the 1 inch rule. Its just a general guidline anyways. Oscars outgrow a 10 gallon in 3 months. Your oscar needs to be in atleast a 75 gallon.
And fish DO NOT grow to the size of the tank.

Rule of thumb for fish, 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. Daily water changes, not necessary, too stressful. Weekly or bi-weekly. Do not feed Ocscars live goldfish. They are usually infected with parasites and will cause diseases amongst your fish. A 20 gallon tank for one oscar is fine, but he would probably like more room. Would humans like to locked in a closet? I had two oscars in a 75 gallon tank. Good luck with your oscar!

You will need at least a two foot tank to keep him happy, but do your water change once a week, because every ime you change the water your oscar has to adapt to it, the rest is fine but when you change your carbon do your water change, your fish is not getting the time to adapt. Try feeding your oscar ox heart, put cut all the tubes and grissle out then cut it into tiny chunks this also makes the oscar grow

We had an oscar that grew to about 12 inches in a 40 gallon tank. They will grow as big as the tank is. He was so big he could hardly turn around. He died when he was about seven years old.

i raised 2 oscars in a 65 gallon tank (long). they seem to be happy & healthy. i only change the water every 6-7months. i also have a pleco living among them which has grown quite big. i guess a single oscar would be happy enough in your tank size.

THE OSCARS WILL GROW INTO WHAT EVER SIZE TANK THEY ARE IN. IF YOU WANT HIM TO GROW PUT HIM IN A 40 GAL.AND FEED HIM FEEDER GUPPIES. THEN GOLDFISH AFTER HE GROWS A LITTLE. GOLD FISH WILL BE O.K., IF YOU KEEP YOUR OWN TANK OF FEEDERS. THE PARISITE PROBLEM COMES WHEN YOU MAKE FREQUENT TRIPS TO THE PET STORE.
