I don't understand why it is so difficult to have a semi decent socail life and walk away with money at the end of the week. All I want to do is, party a little, smash a little and get a little smashed(drunk). I don't have a girlfriend, so that's one expenditure out of the way. Why is it so damn hard?

New York is not a very large state, so land and buildings are at a premium. Rents are high, food is high. Booze is not an inexpensive habit, and your boozing may be one of the reasons you don't have a girlfriend.
If you get a girlfriend, maybe she will become your fiance' and the two of you can pool your money and have a better life together. There is an old saying that goes: Two can live as cheaply as one. Or find a roommate.

New York City has some of the highest paying jobs in the country. It is also one of the largest cities in the world in population. So, it is simply supply and demand in action, lots of people want to live there so housing prices go up because you'll find someone who is willing to pay it. Same thing with prices for goods and services, since people are making more money than in the rest of the country, things cost a little more (or a lot more around times square). best advice...move to north jersey and go to the city to party, it'll save you a ton in the long run.

because there is very little land that is able to be inhabited by the over crowded amount of population that choose to live there
