She did find love, but he was taken away from her. His parents wanted him to go study more and find a higher standing in the community, Jane didn't fit in with that plan. Back then you couldn't follow your heart if it would displease your parents and you couldn't fend for yourself.... there was no Social Security.
Her stories were about the wealthy man saving the poor women with his love, because that's what she hoped her love would do. Not for his money.... but for his love. That is the underlying story in everyone of her books. She died of a broken heart.

Some historians think she was almost engaged once, but her love was called back home before anything formal was arranged and eventually married someone else with better "fortunes."
You'll notice that Jane Austen's heroines are mostly a practical bunch about money. That's probably because Jane, being a lowly parson's daughter, wasn't exactly rolling in it. Most marriages in those days were based on practical finances, not romance and Jane wasn't considered that great of a catch.

No, as a matter of fact she did find her true love, when she was young, but her father didn't approve of him, he wasn't in her class. If I remember correctly, the father was a Minister.
She never got over her loss, and never marrried because of her lost loved one.
She died very early too, at 41 years old, but you could check that out. I may be off by a few years.
She did write subjects that she knew well, having moved in those social circles.

Maybe because she wrote about what guys she would like to be romanced in if she had that opportunity. It was all fantasy. There were probably someone she knew that she really liked that was already taken. And the guys who wanted her were probably all a$$holes.
So, her happiness was writing about people falling in love. If she could not do it, why not her characters?

Writers are generally loners. Most of them usually don't get involved in many relationships in their lifetimes, though they still maintain a romantic disposition. She did get a marriage proposal from a very, very wealthy man but she turned it down. Maybe she liked her quiet life.

Thats a good question, I agree with you though, I think she had high expectations because of her own love stories, and no one good enough came along! Also, some people just aren't meant to get married and maybe being single was good for her, it didn't shatter her romantic ideas for her books.

How can we be sure that she didn't? She may have carried her secret to the grave.
