MOST CERTAINLY DOES. ANY WELL EQUIPPED BATTERY SHOP USING LEAD ACID BATTERIES WILL HAVE BAKING SODA BY THE POUND AVAILABLE.

Sodium bicarbonate NaHCO3, or sodium hydrogen carbonate, also known as baking soda and bicarbonate of soda, is a soluble white crystalline chemical compound, with a slight alkaline taste resembling that of sodium carbonate.
It is also used as an antacid to treat acid indigestion and heartburn. The anhydrous form is also used to absorb moisture and odors; an open box can be left in a refrigerator for this purpose. Additionally, a paste from baking soda can be very effective when used in cleaning and scrubbing.
Sodium bicarbonate, when exposed to an acid, releases carbon dioxide and water:
NaHCO3 + HCl → NaCl + H2O + CO2 (gas)
NaHCO3 + CH3COOH → NaCH3COO + H2O + CO2 (gas)
It is used in combination with acidic compounds (such as cream of tartar) as a leavening agent in baking: some forms of baking powder contain sodium bicarbonate. Formerly, it was used as a source of carbon dioxide for soda water.
Sodium bicarbonate is used as a fire-suppression agent ("BC powder") in some dry powder fire extinguishers. It is a minor component of Purple-K dry fire suppression agent.
It is commonly used to increase the pH and total alkalinity of the water for pools and spas. Sodium bicarbonate can be added as a simple solution for restoring the pH balance of water that has a high level of chlorine. It can also be used to neutralize acids like hydrochloric and sulfuric.

It does! But it's better to use sodium carbonate (soda ash) Na2CO3, which weight for weight has better neutralising power and when bought in it's crude "technical" grade is far cheaper than the bicarbonate. Same result tho' - relatively harmless sodium sulphate to sweep up or hose away afterwards.
Na2CO3 +H2SO4 -> Na2SO4 + H2O + CO2

it will neutralise any acid, put some in vinegar, a coke, your stomach. Did you know vinegar cures indigestion better than antacids, antacids only mask the problem of indigestion, you have indigestion because you don't have enough acid in your stomach to digest the food.

yes, it most definitely does, sulfuric acid (H2SO4) will react w/ baking soda (NaHCO3) like so....
H2SO4+2NaHCO3--->2H2O+2CO2+Na2SO4
CO2 is a gas, and Na2SO4 is a neutral salt
