You can get or make bows that will go from the left side to the right bowed upward to hold the headliner up. Thin stainless rod like a long cb antenna works best. You can also use thin maple dowel rod 3/8" to 3/16" diameter. Cut it a little longer than needed so when you put it in it will bow upward. This fix shouldn't cost more than $10. You can even put a different fabric between the bows and the headliner to jaz it up. Most adhesives and fasteners don't work well because the foam padding between the headliners fabric and the supporting backer board is falling apart. uh hemm. Pretty good answer, don't you think? HInt hint.

The only way to get the headliner to stay in place as it should is to replace it. You can try gathering the loose headliner (if it is loose near the front close to the windshield) and, using push pins, you can 'tack' it into place. This is a temporary fix, but can be done depending on where it has come loose. Once the headliner separates from the board on the interior roof of your vehicle, replacement is the only real option. Don't let anyone tell you that it can be glued.

2 options

1 go to an upholstery place craft store or fabric shop that carries upholstry stuff and buy a pack of uholstery pins, they are shaped like corkscrews with a tack head, screw them into the insulation through the liner at stratigic points and it will stay up.

2 same stores, buy a curved sewing needle and some thread and stich it up to the insulation,

otherwise you have to replace the head liner assembly $$$$

hot glue or duct tape will melt in a car and tacks or staples will just fall out

and a staple or tack gun might just peirce the thin metal of the roof, and give you a few dozen tiny skylights

3m makes a spray on adhesive that will hold it for a short while but the issue is that most often the foam that the thin cloth is bonded to is deteriorating and making a kind of gritty dust. this will continue and your repair will last at best a few months. expect to have to get the headliner replaced. I have seen the adhesive at walmart linen department I think.

Pull off all the fabric.
Brush off all the crumbling foam.
Use latex wall paint--your choice of color-and paint it.

I saw a van done this way, painted like the sky with stars and a moon! It really looked pretty good, and didn;t cost 150-200 bucks either!

If it is just hanging down in the middle then you need to go to a gas station or you mechanic and have them pull it. That will get it to lay straight. But if the whole thing is comeing down then you need to get it professionally glued or stapled back up. Might not want to try it yourself, get it done by someone you know.

Companies make a product called contact cement that comes in a spraycan. Spray this under the fabric, let it set for 30seconds and press it into place. you'll never have to worry about it again.

(1) you can take it to a repair shop and they can replace it - $$$
(2) you can take it to a repair shop and ask for them to use an adehesive - $$
(3) you can do it yourself - duct tape is always a worthy (if unsightly) option; glues like 'gorilla glue' or other super strength glues usually work; and, of course, you can always use whatever other adhesives you have on hand
(4) you can do what my brother did, which was to just rip it all down instead of worrying about it. not the prettiest, but it got it taken care of.
