Because we are bored. We look for enjoyable things. Which is why there are so many drugs and kinds of alcohol out there! Plus they say it is an animal instinct, we have hormones that make us want it. I think the difference between the recent years and those of our grandparents is that sex is more widely talked about and people are open to it.

Go without it for a year and see if it is still important to you. If sex is so important to you, it is probably just the emotional closeness to your partner, that is if you just have one partner. If you are a prostitute, it would be to mainly make money to support yourself. Your question could have numerous answers depending on your specific situation. I would say that most of them are mental really not physical.

The number one way for a species to survive is reproduce
Reproduce
Reproduce
Reproduce
That is programmed into us. It is an instinct to reproduce because when we were apes, that's all we knew it as: reproduction
Today, we have minds so we don't think about it as reproduction, but our instincts still tell us to do it. The difference is our minds tell us to put on condoms

I'm trying to fight pleasure. I pray all the time and I read the Bible all the time too. I'm a christian and I can't fall to temptations of the flesh. I'm trying to achieve the supernatural abilities like Jesus had, and the only way that can be done is to overcome all lusts including sexual lusts.

It makes us feel good about ourselves. It boosts confidence and combats depression. It actually releases chemicals in our bodies to elate us. A good love can do all the same things even without the sex.

because your sexual health is important because sex is the answer to many problems that are affecting men in today's society of a human beings life. it is through sharing this act of love that two people learn to trust each other & to love each other more. it is hard to stay in a relationship where there is no sex usually, marrieges do not work out because they lack sexual drives or have non-existent sex lives. that is why i think men need answers to boost their sex drives.

Hey, you could eat beans and rice three meals a day also.
You would survive.
But,
Isn't it nice to eat some chicken, a steak, a hamberger..

Sex is the same way... IT JUST FEELS GOOD. Better than doing without.

For the same reason food and water are important - it satisfies a biological drive.

However, like eating (bulimia/anorexia), sexual functioning can be disrupted in individuals (because of abuse among other things).
