The ol' man, our 7 year old son and I are relocating there and would like information about the area aside from "are you Mormons"??? It seems to be the automatic response when I mention Utah. I know there has to be more to the state than that... we're very outdoorsy, openminded people.

cjsiggy - Not sure how well you know Mormons - but most are very far from liberal. There are exceptions (like myself) but then again I'm not active.

Saint George is great for outdoors. The views are beautiful and the scenary breath-taking. As a growing community (a lot of new shopping and entertainment areas) with a decent proximity to Vegas, the Saint George area is becoming more liberal than most of Southern Utah, but there's still a fair amount of conversativism. However, if you're like me and enjoy being a bit of a rebel, it'll work out for you. Besides - if you really need your liberal fix, Vegas is 90 minutes south.

It's close enough to some of the most beautiful scenery around, yet also close enough to Vegas if you want to attend a concert or show.

As outdoorsy people, you will be in a great area. Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks aren't very far away, and would be great places for a few days of camping. Cedar Breaks National monument is pretty close also. I'm not a mormon either, but I'd love to live in St. George.

It does get pretty hot in the summers, but the winters aren't too bad.

Enjoy your new town.

St. George is VERY beautiful! And VERY Mormon. Which, are on the liberal side. You should fit in well I am sure. I thought it was very nice and clean where I stayed. I was only there a few days though.

Well, strangely enough, I was there. Are you ready? This'll be far from flattering but as honest and discrete as I know how to be.

Never did I see evil assume so bland an appearance.

Very beautiful area.

I wasn't there long enough to see much more than that.
