Tampons... no questions asked. They are more discreet, you can wear anything with them, you don't need to worry about making a mess and finally, you don't notice them. Unlike a pad, which is a constant moist reminder that you are on your period, you can actually forget that a tampon is in at all. Heck, if you didnt have cramps you might actually forget this is the worst week of the month. Also, they are smaller and travel easier than pads, and don't smell weird if you wait too long to change them. Tampons are definantly the way to go.. you won't regret it i promise.

I say tampons are better personally. You have to make sure you have the right one for the heaviness of your flow. I use Tampax Pearl Regulars and I would highly recommend them they are great. I like the tampons better because then I don't like the feeling of a lot of pads. They are also better if you are really active that way you can move and not have to feel it come out or anything...especially for swimming. On the heavier days I would use both a tampon and pad...like personally I know I hate school bathrooms so that encourages me to do both on the heavier days. But you have to be careful getting the right size for yourself and how often you change them most of the time to protect from TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) which can be very deadly...But I would definitely recommend Tampax Pearl for you...they are great.

i totally agree with Sarah Beth... tampons are less noticable, to you and the world, you can wear whatever kinda underwer you wnat to, just read the instructions and get the right size. i would start off with a low absorbancy and wear a pad too and change them both every 2-3 hours for your first couple months of using it so you dont mess up. but ask your mom what is best for you

i would use both. if you wear a tampon during the day wear a pad at night. because you can't wear a tampon for longer than 8 hours when you're sleeping and there's a risk of gettting toxic shock syndrome. Use either tampax pearl or playtex gentle glide.

use tampons, i also used pads for a couple months, but then summer came along, you can't wear a pad in a pool. tampons are way more convientient. you can start by using the junior or lite ones. then use tampax pearl.

definetly tampons, pads are wet and icky and very uncomferatable 2 stand up in. You should start out by using slim or ullites, because they are small and u will be more comferatable. Read all the directions and u should be fine. U should use pearl. because they are plastic applicatous.

i use insted its a Menstrual cup that holds blood till you empty it insted of absorbing it, so you cnawear it twice as long as a tampon safely (no tss)
http://www.softcup.com/softcup_main.php
on days when I wear a pad I use washable ones that I make myselfbut you can buy them too
http://www.lunapads.com/
also you need to know YOU CANNOT SLEAP IN A TAMPON doing so is hazardous to your health you must Alternate the use of tampons with pads or a menstrual cup!

I like kotex brand with a plastic applicator. Plastic makes it easier to slide in. You may want to stick with regular instead of super or super plus. It took me about half a box before I felt comfortable in it. You should not be able to feel it in at all. If you do, you do not have it in far enough. Just keep practicing and you be comfortable with it.
