It is because of Greed plain and simple.

The Pharmaceutical has lots of money.
Our Presidents are elected usually much by how much campaigning they do. The Pharmaceutical and Others like Exxon(oil) give a lot of money to their campaigns. So they are left alone. They don't bite the hand that gets them elected or who keeps them there. If we had a different way for the government to campaign without depending on these resources(like taxes)-maybe they would take action against them. But now most owe them favors.
This is one reason we are one of the few who don't have Nation health. I think there is only 3 countries now who don't and we are one.
And no there isn't a program for all-that is a myth that some believe. those who have major problems know.
What can you do--always support Nation Health-yes more taxes-many countries pay it and survive (other myth-those other countries are bankrupt-some are but not just because of this). And not one of those countries do the majority of people want to cancel that benefit.

rTo answer your question, I believe all the drug companies and doctors are in bed with each other, add the politicians to that mix. I am having the same problem finding an individual health care plan because I have Bipolar Disorder. I am stuck paying high premiums just to keep my health insurance. It has a Rx plan and I would be far worse off if I had to pay out of pocket for my meds.
There are a lot of Rx programs available and some drug companies do have programs to help people with their Rx needs but not everything is available that way. I did a search for prescription drug plans and found at least 6 possibilities. That may be a good place to start.

Medications are expensive because of Research and Development. It takes extensive years and dedication to come out with the perfect drug that won't harm, but will help a patient. I have a friend that works for Pfizer (biggest Pharm company) and you wouldn't beleive the expenses incurred.

As an alternative, you may want to get a prescription and buy the drugs online. I live in Canada and I know that there are thousands of Americans that purchase their medications thorugh Canada because of the reduced costs. Depending on what you need, there are great deals around for the high qualtiy drugs that are sold right in your local pharmacies.

That is because the AMA ( American Medical Assoc ) Controls all the drugs .. Doctors included.. In other countries, doctors do not get paid 1 / 10th the amount that they do in the States.

Try going across the border into Canada or Mexico.. Medicine is about 1/5 the cost. In some Countries, the Governments pay for all medicine.

Why is it so expensive

Look for information on a medication called Low dose Naltrexone (AKA: LDN). I was on Avonex and then Rebif and stumbled across information on LDN read all I could. I also, found that all of the ABC drugs have a success rate of 30%. My doctor said no to LDN so I found a doctor who said yes. It’s the greatest thing I ever did. However, read all you can to be comfortable taking it. You’ll be happy you started. (BTW: LDN has no known side effects) E-mail me at stevancremeans@yahoo.com if you have any questions. Scott

All the major drug companies have patient assistance programs to help people without insurance get their medication. Merck is giving my son his asthma medication free, and McNeil is giving me his ADHD meds free. All you have to do is go to their website, and download the forms, send them in, and you are usually approved- based on income and if you have no insurance. Or you can ask your doctor to help you with the forms.

Many times, if you contact the manufacturer directly, they have a program in place to assist people such as your friend.

Because of greedy money grubbing manufacturers, politicians, lawsuits and the occasional prescription drug thieves.
