i dont know much about the europe end of it, but if you are a us history student and need to know the causes of us involvement in the war . . . (this is only a list of factors contributing to united states involvement)
1) u-boat warfare attacks by germany (like on the lusitania, the arabic, and the sussex)
2) interception of the zimmerman telegram (fear possible german/mexican alliance in opposition to us territorial interests)
3) cultural ties to england (obligated to help on that side)
4)billions of dollars loaned to the allies (the us didnt want to lose its investment)
5) allied propoganda (england controlled the transatlantic cables and influenced the us that way)
those are the 5 big factors that i know of, and dont forget about how president wilson idealized the war to promote involvement. hope this helps :) feel free to email me

One of the instigating factors was the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. You can do your own research on him now that you have the name.

the killing of arch duke fernindand is the official reason.....but my dad says that all the countries of eorope were poised to go to war against each other anyway and they just needed a reason so when fernidand was killed they all took it as a good reason and started killing each other.
