Actually, I don't feel that most of them sound alike at all. I am an avid r&b fan, and I find that even if I have never heard a song before, I can almost always place the singer if I have heard other songs by that person. I think the other answerer is right, r&b is a genre, and therefore a lot of it will sound similar. Just as in any other genre of music, many many singers/songs have a similar sound, that is what being a genre is. :) If you are less familiar with a genre, however, things will probably sound more alike than not.

New R&B all sounds the same because R&B has become more closly related to pop (other then John Legend) but go back to the 60's and 70's when they had Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and James Brown. They all sounded different and it was great. Listen to old R&B!

For the same reason that Led Zepplin just sounds like a bunch of cats to me. You don't like the sound of it. All teeny bopper radio sounds the same to me for the same reasons.
Country music sounds the same to some people. But I happen to like it so I can pick out the differences.
It's all a matter of taste and what you're into.

I do not think that all R&B artists sound that same. They might have the same vibes and rythym and tones but this is why they are classified under the genre of R&B music.
Perhaps you should try and broaden the scope and listen to different artists and appreaciate the lytrics and music of R&B.
Or maybe you just don't find this type of music appealing.

Sounds like its time to broaden your musical horizons. How about giving classic rock, Christian contemporary, blues, country, and/or jazz a listen. R&B is getting boring huh?
