honestly, when you have a period....you only actually lose about a tablespoon of blood total. it only looks like more because of tissue and water being dispelled also. now if you are losing enough to be changing sanitary pads more than every 4 hrs...then yes that is excesive....she needs to go see a doc. it could be a sign of many things wrong.

If u are just having a normal period u will just only lose 3 tsp of blood really but if its heavy and is on for weeks and are giving u problems then u should see a doctor bout it. But the blood really is the egg and its sheding. But if u have more questions about periods u can go to www.beinggirl.com.

I agree. Although if your looking at it from a point of view of: will I become anemic by having a period. Most likely no. You body produces enough blood to replinish. Now if you are bleeding more than just a normal period-Go see a doctor, because you are "wasting so much blood" that if you aren't anemic yet, you will be.

LOL.. well i guess it is if you look at it in the sense that the blood along with the egg isnt forming a baby so it is a waste =)

Well, its not all blood that you are releasing during a period. It's tissue from the uterine lining and also the unfertilized egg.

it's not cuz your period is actually a lining that protects your baby when u r expected. u hav your period cuz the ovum is no fertilized and there's no need of protecting the ovum when it's not fertilized
