it's not based on a true story not the original 1974 classic or 2003 remake they just said that as a gimick to advertise the movie

Ed Gine is what Psycho & The Texas Chainsaw Massacer is based on though

TCM is based on the story of the serial killer, Ed Gein. Leatherface was based somewhat on Gein.

it is. did't you see the part when there is a video at the begining or the end (don't remember which one, maybe both?) were the cops are at the house and then the chainsaw guy jumps out and attacks them? that was real footage.

Well, we here in Texas say it is, so it is. Apparently it brings us a lot of notoriety, and then all you Yankees and Californians and New Yuckers will think twice 'bout comin' here and getting all lost in the woods. We sure do make a mean chili! :)

Sort of, the actual event was no where close to what happened in the movie though. The real thing is just about this guy who lived in Texas who raped and killed a bunch of women, then mutilated their bodies. IDK where they got the plot for the movie. I do know that the black and white footage in the movie is real.

NO! Its inspired by a true story. If you want to know the truth, the film does NOT depict factual events. They just say it to frighten the audience.
