As a middle school student, I have already made up my mind to become a professional musician; however, I need to figure out a clearer "route" to take. I've already heard of Julliard and the California Institute of the Arts, so if you know more about those, just tell me. I will probably major in music performance and music theory and composition, so I am looking for colleges that offer those. BTW, if you can, let me know about any tips to reaching success in the music world. Thanks a bunch!!! :)

Juilliard, Oberlin, University of Minnesota, Iowa State University, University of Alaska Fairbanks, UCLA, or Berkeley. You really do need at least 3 years of a foreign language!!! I strongly urge you to visit the campuses of the schools you want to go to. You may find that even though it is a good school, that you just do not like it there. You need to study in a place where you are comfortable! I have a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. Now, even though I study entertainment law I have worked professionally as a singer/actor since I was 2 years old, doing shows such as Sesame Street to movies such as Under Siege. You need to practice, practice, practice. Pay close attention to your studies, always. Also, LISTEN. Listen to every recording you can that involves your instrument. Half of performing is the ability to listen.
I wish you the best of luck!

alot of schools offer music education courses with the ability to perform with the schools symphony.its a lot harder getting into music schools then it is to regular college because you have to be EXCELLENT in it, but if you feel youll learn more in a music school, then go for it, or try to get into college's that have a great city symphony so that you can work in the symphony performing.

Other people have mentioned Juilliard, which is of course the best in New York, but I highly recommend New England Conservatory, in Boston. It's renowned for its Strings department.
