the shells of turtles will turn dull and peel when they shed there skin as they grow, this is normal but watch for any signs of illness as this is a stressfull time for them. they may slow down but should not become to slow to react as they normally would. you can help by picking off the loss skin as it flakes away. consult a reptile veterinarian for more information.

Like all reptiles, turtles shed as they grow.
It is nothing to worry about if:
- the peels are paper thin and translucent
- the shell underneath looks healthy- no dark blotches, pale spots or pits, slimy/soft/oozy areas
- there are no bad smells or junk under them
- the turtle is otherwise healthy- eating OK, etc.

your turtle is not getting enough vitamins. give it a little raw hamburger and romaine or red letteuce ice berg letteuce as no vitamin value clean up any uneaten food within 15 mins. of putting it out nto avoid samonella. you can also buy reptile vitamins at petco or petsmart to put on the turtles food. Your turtle may already have samonella so take your turtle to a reptile vet.asap

Are they getting enough hours under their lamp cause they got to have so much a day for their shells too. Ive got 2 red ear sliders
also at pet smart their turtle pellets are good for them cause it conditions their shells. but they need to be able to be in a dry area under the lamp for atleast 8 hours a day. in the summer i let them outside in a kiddy pool so they get the sun thats even better than the lamp. keeps their shells condition and shiny

As long as there is a new scale underneath it's normal, if it is bone you got trouble. These scales are called skutts. I assume you mean peel or peeling.
