In order for a person to become President, he or she must be a natural-born citizen of the United States, be at least 35 years of age, and have resided in the United States for at least 14 years. Once elected, the President serves a term of four years and may be re-elected only once.

Article II, § 1, cl. 4: "No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States."

It is amazing that almost no one get this right. Boy talk about failed public schools. Of course most people took this as an opportunity to defame our President. To answer your question correctly: You must be 35 years of age (not 45) You have to have been born here. That is it you don't have to be nominated by anyone and you don't have to have any other qualifications.

Anything else does not matter when you take into consideration the president we have now.
