Those people now in the White House think they are smarter than everyone else. The explaination of why we are in Iraq starts with WWII, but I will pick it up in Texas before Bush became the President.
Texas has what is called a weak Governorship. Bushes job was actually to act as back slapper and jokerster in Texas, (in fact, this is the only skill Bush really possess) you might say, that Bush was the first man of Texas.
The Assembley in Texas has all the real power, and bush had all the Ceremonial power. But the title of Governor was a jumping off place for the Presidency.
Rove and Bush detroyed more than one reputation pulling dirty trickies on the opposition. And it has worked all the way to the Presidency.
The second part was the assemply of The Stern Foreign Policy Team which has played itself out beginning with the Axis of Evil Speech, the invasion of Iraq and now the confrontations with the UN, North Koria and Iran.
But the real surprizes have not yet materialized. It took me longer than many to know that oil and location were the primary reasons for invading Iraq. The crazy thing is that the plans have not change since the beginning.
Bush and the White House Gang are still planing on fortifing Iraq, cutting the force down to about a 80,000 housed inside of four major and self-contained fortesses that can be supplied by
air.
Once this is accomplished, then the next goal is to capture one of the oil fields and turn it over to private oil companies and others. Then they would fly the oil reserves out if trucks, trains or pipes can not do the job.
A good portion of the oil reservies would be used exculsivity for America and her closest allies, but it will also be used to control oil prices, and oil prices are all that this is about..
This is the basically plan. It has been the plan since long before the invasion of Iraq or the current Iraq situation. The idea is to control the people of the region by exploiting their resoruces and paying them off as hired guns to control the their own people.

Well, there are several reasons. First is that Saddam has long been an enemy of the United States, so he was on the front of Bush's mind when he took office. Secondly, there were suspicions that Iraq was trying to develop nuclear capabilities, but nobody knew for sure because Saddam had not allowed UN weapons inspectors in for several years. Even after they were allowed under intense international pressure, there were still lots of areas that were off limits (thus nullifying their allowance). There were, in fact, weapons found that violated UN rules that had never been destroyed. Third, after 9/11 Bush immediately assumed that Al-Queada had support from Iraq (which has never been substantiated), and was already inclined to take action. There are arguments made that America wishes to control more of the world's oil supply, and that that was a motivation also.
Finally, Bush is an evangelical Christian who, like many, believe that the Final Judgement will occur as a result from a large war in the Middle East, and that humans can bring this time about.
The reasons are probably a combination of these. The war started when the US gave an ultimatem to Iraq, stating that they must give the weapons inspectors the access that Iraq agreed to give them years and years before, which Iraq refused to do.

I believe that Bush had wanted to find a way to get Saddam because Saddam tried to kill Bush #1. Secondly, as the other person stated how do we know there are no weapons of mass destruction. There are a lot of places where they could be hidden. They are probably hidden in a mountain somewhere that the un inspectors were not allowed. That Is a huge place and I firmly believe that they are there. I know this Is my opinion but people always down Bush. They are always blaming him for everything that goes wrong. I wish people would see all the good he has done. I bet all those Bush haters do not complain about all the tax cuts he has given them. Do you think they want to give that money back. Of course not. They just complain about all the bad stuff. Most of the stuff that has happened during the Bush administration was stated by previous presidents. If Clinton would have been more aggressive when the Trade Center was attracted during his administration then maybe all those people would not of had to die in 9/11. At least Bush stood up to fight and not run with his tail between his legs. Any way that is why I think we are at war.

Because your daddy beat my daddy up and I'm going to pay you back. That's why we are at war in Iraq. As Whoopi Goldberg said "Bush doesn't know his geography, he went in the wrong direction." Goes to show how ignorant Bush looks and sounds, when a reporter asked him if he saw any similarities between War in Iraq and the Vietnam war his stupid behind said no. I was flabbergasted. I was like -- what history book did you read? What wars did you study? No the terrain is most definitely different, however, the same thing is happening. Our soldiers are being killed, returning wounded (weekly they arrive at Walter Reed Army Hospital here in DC -- I have an inside source), just recently, I believe last week there was a story of a veteran and his brother flying to Tampa from New York to visit their Mother and the veteran attacked the door of the plane (can we say mental issues will be haunting our soldiers for years to come?) We are recving the same disdain from the Iraq people as our soldiers did in Vietnam. I say get our men and women out of their and let the Iraq people fiend for themselves. Each countries view on democracy just like religion is it's own and no country should try and force either on another.

It's been said we are there because they have nukes, or because they have oil...and yadda yadda. But I think that people need to open up a history book and look deeper. Iraq is situated in the land of URUK. Uruk was an ancient city of BABYLON! And before that SUMER. The history in the sands of IRAQ goes so deep that imagine the wealth of information and the relics there are to be found...imagine what's already been found. Iraq is an important place biblically and politically because of the power it once conveyed and if all the nonsense about OUR president is true, regarding secret societies, a new world order and the worship of some ungodly alliances, then what better place to build a seat of power than in the oldest, most powerful place in antiquity? It was the 2nd city founded by NIMROD, who went on to build the TOWER OF BABEL. The germans were among the first to excavate in Iraq and considering the timeline, we can only imagine the circumstances that brought them to IRAQ. It could be for oil. It could be for WMD, or if anyone wants to go deeper, it could simply be some stupid occult belief that THIS is the place to be when armaggedon comes knocking at the door.

What kills me, is that all of you Bush hating, white flag waiving, cut-and-run, yellow belly libs, want to have your cake and eat it too. No matter what Bush does, (or doesn't do), the left is going to find fault with it some how - even if the fault has to be a fabricated half - truth. If Bush goes to war, then he is a war mongering anti-christ. If he had chosen not to go to war then you would be screaming that he is a weak leader. Oh - and for those of you who like to complain that Bush is "just over in Iraq for the oil", then keep your freekin mouth shut the next time you are filling your car up at $3.20 or more per gallon! Yeah - we're in it for the oil - to think otherwise would be ignorant. Oil is the life blood of this country's economy - like it or not. And until the day comes that there is a economically viable alternative to oil, this country wil CONTINUE to be dependent on oil. Get over it! And that goes for all of you whining "Sky is falling" global warming Al Gore is GOD freaks. All he's after is a ticket to the white house, and will do anything to get it - including lying about the global warming issue.

You got some good answers to this one, and I compliment you on the way you phrased the question. Good thinking deserves good thinking in return.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, in the US questioned the need to invade Afghanistan after 9/11/01...to "get" Osama and to clean out his nest of terrorists. The world was with us there, and we were all supportive of the effort. Iraq is a whole different story and, living in a "red" state, as I do, I have had my patriotism questioned endlessly for asking this very question. WHY we are at war in Iraq is complex: we could; the President wanted to; Big Oil wanted the President to do so; the Neo-cons in the government have plotted forever to do so and successfully confused the American public into thinking it had to support the war. We didn't "get" Osama bin Ladin, we didn't find WMD, we didn't establish a thriving democracy, and--lately--we don't even have oil. We don't belong there and never did.

I believe we're at war because we were attacked by people in the middle east, which we may or may not have thought came from Iraq.
The important thing for us was to get in that area so we could be in a position to stop any future attacks.
We did believe and many still do believe there were WMD's which would be turned on us. We know that Saddam used them on his own people so why not?
We stayed in Iraq because of the atrocities of Saddam and the hope to bring democracy to that country as a beginning toward peace and a workable living situation in a place we lack allies.
It also affords us the opportunity to be present in the proximity of Bin Laden.
The explosion of such a number of terrorists was not expected and now we cannot leave until they have stopped so the country can survive in it's new stages of democracy without being taken over by another dictator who may be as bad as Saddam.
The Iraqi citizens showed by the number who voted in spite of the threats to their lives, just how much they want freedom.

It is not a war imposed on Iraqi people by the Americans, it is a personal vendetta against the deposed leader Sadam Hussein from the present President Bush and his father - a former President of USA! It has nothing whatsoever to do with 9-11 nor with oil! It is an example of a totally senseless conflict, and in that President Bush is acting like Napoleon Bonaparte!

If the USA is not at war with Iraq, believe me, they would be at war with another country. Everyone wants to be in CONTROL. Know that we fight a war against prince and principalities. Between good and evil. Between God and that little bitty bad angel, satan. We humans are the chess pieces and the governments take turns trying to conquer each others territory. If all mankind were to drop their guns and everybody surrenders to the will of God, then there would no longer be war against another. Territorial Rights and the ability to control is what the government seeks. The problem here, is that government and various religious sects do not want to agree nor honor any of Gods commandments. That is why we are at war with various countries. We must stand strong and refuse to fight. Remember years ago when our young men fled to Canada to avoid the draft...this must be done again, and again until the government decides to stop wasting human lives and try to live together until the end times come. As a matter of fact, we are in that time period.
