I am an ecperienced mechanic. A few things to chech. First see if other systems work(lights, radio, etc.) Either way check your battery connections. You will see corrison on the terminals if corrosion has been going on for a long time (it can be the same with nothing to see) either way take a 1/2 (same as 13mm) wrench and loosen the terminals and clean them. If that doesn't fix it check your GROUND wires. Ground wires cause about 40% of these problems. Then check your fuses, a visual check is not enough. Most "trunk" kits have a "test light" in them. Clip the "clip " end onto a good ground (the part of the door hinge that is down to metal is a good place to start) and start checking each end of your fuses, if they are good your light will light up on BOTH ends of the fuse, if only one end lights up then it is bad. If your fuses are good and other electrical systems work it may be the battery, the solenoid, or starter. If this is the case go to a good parts house (O'Reilly, NAPA, Crow Burlingam,ETC) and they will let you use tools in order to sell their parts to you. They are an invaulable help to you and will give you access to thousands of $ of tools in order to sell you parts. To check your battery, with either a battery checker or a volt-meter clip it onto your battery and check the reading with no load, then put a load on it. With no load it should read between 12 and 13.5 V. under load (like a starter) it should read no lower that 10 Volts after 10 to 15 sec. I'll bet it a dirty connection on your battery though...especially if it happened quickly. one day it worked..parked it and then it didn't work....it happens that quickly. But keep in mind the resource that a parts house can be for you for tools most can't aford....it sells parts for them.

If the key won't turn over at all it usually means that your engine is either locked up or your timing belt is broke. If your key will turn over but there is dead silence your battery is most likely dead.

Dead battery, bad alternator causing the battery not to be charged, therefore resulting in dead battery. Or something in the ignition system. But the first is take your battery and test it, Then go from there.

First thing to check is the battery. If you have no lights (interior or headlamps), the battery is likely drained, or a battery cable is broken or disconnected. Use jumper cables and another vehicle to "boost" your battery.
If you DO have power, but nothing happens when you turn the key, your ignition switch is hooped.

could be a couple of things, check your fuses to see if they are good, have starter relay(mounted on firewall or fenderwell) checked, have your starter solinoid checked, you will have to remove the starter to have this done. most auto parts stores (autozone...napa...big A....) will do this for free(test..NOT remove)
check you nuetral safty switch, try starting car in neutral, if car starts, you found the problem.
hope this helps....bodean

I say you need an alternator. Just a guess, because I had a similar problem, and that's what was needed. Good luck. I hope you can get it fixed.

Do you hear a click? If you hear a click it could be the cellonoid in the starter (much cheaper than the starter).
