There are many "gods" who are created in the image of the men who made them. As it is written in the Bible about idols...
...Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them. Psalms 115:8
If a person's "god" is an angry, loveless tyrant, then that person will most likely be like that and whoever was the first to come up with that "god" was like that.
Even people who claim to worship the God who has revealed Himself to us in the Bible may actually worship a "god" they have created in their own imagination as they focus on one part of the divine character to the exclusion of the other parts.
But, to answer your question directly, mankind was originally created in God's image which includes things like the ability to love, to be creative, and to think rational thoughts and to be self sacrificing for another when common sense mitigates against it.

When we say God created Man in his own image..it means in a spiritual sense ..and not in the physical sense as having or possesing a body.
God resides in all human beings in the heart centre in the form of a very tiny flame..This flame is something apart from the body and what we call soul..It does not go any where after death and is eternal. Our identity with God is like the wave and the Ocean.Essentially the same.
God separted us from himself so that we could appreciate Him and His his creation. This is the cause that all of us are always looking ouit of something.. we seek to go back to our original source or true Nature which is Godhood.
All the saints /religious people were the great ones who realised this truth.

Men were created in God's image but some men don't like God so they try to re-create him in their image. Some accept Him the way he is, some not.
