I'm not sure why some other teams do it, but the Dodgers started doing it a year or two ago. They claimed that it saved some stupidly small amount of money. It was pretty damned difficult to know exactly which players sucked when there were no names on the f**king jerseys!

Then again, last season, the entire team was sucking pretty hard, and I'm a die-hard Dodger fan!

The real answer is that some of the older teams in major league baseball do not put players' names on the back of their uniforms. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers to name 3.

It's purely a matter of tradition. Teams who pay their rosters $200 million a year can most assuredly afford to have someone sewing names on their shirts.

The Dodgers recently took the names off the backs of the jerseys, because management feels that the name on the front of the jersey should be more important that the name on the back.

Sadly, this has led to DECREASED jersey sales at Dodger Stadium. I for one loved my #32 KOUFAX jersey and cannot replace it unless I buy a "replica" somewhere else...

Some players have long names that would not fit on their jerseys. It would be awkward if some in the team have their names on their jerseys and some dont.

Because most of the teams like the Red Sox or Yankees want to keep the old tradition. Back then they didn't have names on their jerseys in the Babe Ruth era.

With some MLB teams if they're home then their jerseys don't have their names on it. Its also depends on how much money the team has.

Certain teams don't use names for two reasons:
The Yanks, for instance think that any player on their team should be known. You don't need a name for recognition.
In college football, a lot of schools believe no one athlete is bigger than the university. That is why they don't have it.

They don't use names on their jerseys because they don't want to, or they don't know.

some maybe because older teams never did it. And some maybe because they don't want to call attention to any one player. All that sh*t about saving money? How stupid are you people?
