There are doctors who specialize in managing withdrawal from medications. You may want to consult one of these as opposed to asking your pain management doctor to manage your withdrawal. After all, his or her specialty is pain management, not withdrawal. A good specialist will taper you off your medicine so as to minimize withdrawal. Don't stop taking your medicine cold turkey. Your primary care physician should be able to recommend a withdrawal specialist.

Please, I'm not all new-agey, but the only time I have no perception of pain is when I do meditation. I don't do T-M, but I find Guided Visualization is F A N T A S T I C !!! It takes some minimal investment of time, and practice, but it works for me. It's the only thing that has taken ALL my pain away. The pills just take the edge off. If you are willing to be open minded and give it a try, it might help you. Very, very best wishes.
