Lakeland has the utmost characteristic of being a small town yet carry efects on inmigrants and few accidents. A told urban legend is that of pilgrims travelling south to lakeland and discovering the trees of eden and the apples of veranda. These do not exist yet keep being told of. A modern urban legend on Lakeland is that of a hiker who would not pay a fare on his way home, and several people on their vehicles keep helping him to this day on his hitchhiking ventures, some go further affirming every other ride the drivers invite him coffee, while waiting for him is Stella his fiancee, already married yet waiting his return. His name is supposedly Abraham, there is the doubt he was born a pilgrim or not.

Go to snopes.com and do a search. They've got a lot of the urban legend stuff there and it's a great resource for checking on those chain emails that are aimed at making you freak out about something!
