I've heard that a lot from various sources. So is my question factual and accurate?

Classical music is a specific point in the history of music. It's definitely something that is a good replacement for what is crammed down peoples' throats as popular, with it, or acceptable.

Like anything, it's hunt and search. I started out with the heavy metal listening. I earnestly believed in this. Today, it's baroque music. It is intrinsically pleasing, does in fact nurture the spirit, and it is nothing about musically slouching.

Bach, Handel, Purcell, Boyce, Albinoni. There was a time I would've considered an investment firm I could only dream about getting a job with. In the mail room. We grow. We learn. Hopefully. Hope this helps.

What are you referring to as "classical music"? Anything that has an orchestra and no words? Music can be written with the intetnion to help you relax, but most composers aren't writing with the idea that you can gain afew IQ points. Music has an unbelieveable way of activating neurons in our brain. Check out some information on music therapy, and how different styles of music can evoke different emotions. Composers write music to express themselves. There is no proff that it can help you gain IQ points. And for that matter, everyone responds to music differently. A piece of 'classical' music that I like might actaully make you want to throw something.

There is NO evidence from double-blind controlled studies regarding the IQ increase.

Regarding the relaxation, yes - music has been shown to relax - but this effect is not specific to classical - any soothing and/or familiar music can demonstrate this effect.

I think it only works if you're young enough. Ask a pregnant friend to try it with her future kid. Have headphones on the belly while playing some Mozart or something.
