It doesn't matter what order you mix your colors (paints?).

You know, like how it doesn't matter if your food touches the other food on your plate because it all ends up in your tummy.

First - ALWAYS add the darker color to the lighter color. Otherwise you'll end up using way too much paint and possibly never get to hue you really want.

People will tell you to just mix colors, but if you start by adding a primary color to a secondary color, your chances are better and the whole process will likely go more quickly.

Mixing different primary and secondary colors together will get you different types of browns. Try mixing yellow and red to get an orange, and begin to dab in bits of black or blue until you get a color you like. This is just one example.

Experiment - that's what art is all about, isn't it? Discovering what works for you?

Or better yet, go to the store and just BUY some brown.

red, yellow, and blue are Primary colors. to achieve brown it's a mix of one primary and one secondary color.
red and blue make purple. purple with yellow make brown.
yellow and red make orange. orange and blue make brown.
I hope that makes sense.
