Just moved here two years ago, our friends told us the Central Florida is pretty safe, because the hurricanes from the Atlantic or the Gulf would slow down a lot in this area, but the same year we had 3 major hurricanes hit us (in Central Florida). So? Who knows? Maybe no luck in this state...

Heh speaking from the background of having been born here (in FL) and lived here my whole life (well, except when I was away in the Army), there is no safe place. I can still remember seeing the satellite images of Andrew back in 1992. The state is no more than 150-175 miles wide (Gulf Coast to Atlantic Ocean or coast of panhandle to state line). Andrew was about 275 -300 miles across. The only safe place is NOT in the path of the storm. If it wasn't for Homestead AFB's strategic location, i.e. right across the Florida straits from Cuba, they would not have completely rebuilt it after Andrew wiped it out.

A few years ago when we (Daytona) got those four in a row, one even went right to the middle of the state and messed up the terminal at MCO (Orlando Int'l Airport).

Jacksonville FL is normally the most safe place during hurricanes. the cities in the panhandle (like Tallahassee, Pensacola....) they arent good 2 be in cuz hurricanes usually hit there. like one time we thought a hurricane was going 2 hit Jacksonville so we went 2 Tallahassee when we got there we were there 4 like 2 days and the hurricane was headed there. so we came back 2 jacksonville and all that was in Jacksonville was alot of rain oh and we didnt have lights but we were still safe.well i guess as safe as we could be i dunno trees still fell here just not as many as most places. honestly during hurricane season no place is like truly truly safe.

If your going North it would probably be safest to go up to Georgia.
