The are 2 rounds in the NBA draft. There are 30 picks per round. The idea is to have each team have one pick per round, but due to trading picks, this usually does not happen.
For instance, the Miami Heat have 0 draft picks in the entire draft, but some other teams have 3 or 4.
The first 14 picks are lottery picks, and they are usually locks to make the team. The most recent notable time that a lottary pick has backfired, was the Orlando Magic's pick of Fran Vasquez with the number 11 pick. He may never play in the NBA, and the Magic lose that pick forever.
However, some players that have never been drafted, end up having a huge impact, or even becoming All Stars, like Ben Wallace.

NBA draft only has two rounds, 30 picks per round, for a total of 60 picks overall. only the 30 first-rounders get guaranteed contracts. The second-rounders have to scrap and claw just to make an NBA roster.
