She had a eating disorder that upset all systems in her body. Her husband did not starve her. She had no brain activity and she was used in a horrible political way.

I read online somewhere that she went into cardiac arrest one day and noone is sure why. She survived the arrest, but because of the lack of oxygen to her brain she developed hypoxic encephalopathy which caused her paralysis. I don't think there was ever any indication she had suffered any trauma ( noone was beating her). Could have been many things ( like a blood clot in her lung or a bleed in her brain from an aneurysm) , and although im sure it was investigated, I don't think it was ever determined what actually caused her arrest.
I've worked in emergency rooms for seven years, and I've seen many people with end-stage diseases whose families want us to do "everything you can". We never want to lose a loved one. It hurts no matter how they leave us. The only thing I have a strong opinion about in this case, is one's OWN preference. Don't leave it up to your loved ones to make these decisions for you. Terri never thought she would wind up so neurologically compromised that she could'nt make decisions, or atleast express her wishes, but she did, and so could any of us. EVERYONE should have a living will, and an appointed medical power of attorney who knows your wishes, should tragedy strike. All doctor's offices, attorney's offices, and ER's have them! Fill one out!

Terri Schiavo wasn't paralyzed, she was comatose. She was bulimic. One night, Michael and Terri had had dinner. And she had had a large meal, and not long after the meal, he heard a thumping sound in the couple's bathroom, went to investigate, found Terri lying on the floor of the bathroom. She had just purged, apparently, or vomited, binged, which is what bulimics do and had a heart attack. By the time fire rescue arrived at the Schiavo home she had suffered severe brain damage. Her heart was weakened by years of her yo-yo dieting and bulimia and just couldn't take it anymore.

Jill S is correct. Her husband never beat or hit her those are lies.
The autopsy showed that her brain was liquified. As most competent doctors had diagnosed, she would never have recovered. Also, her husband was following his wife's wishes not to be kept alive in a vegitative state. This was determined over and over and over by the courts. Also, she was not in a coma. She was in a "persistant vegitative state". Her brain had been destroyed due to lack of oxygen. Someone in a coma may recover. She would never have recovered.

OR...from one "theory" I heard. Her husband strangled her or sufficated her with a pillow but didn't finish the job...he left to quick(to create an aliby to let him be seen outside the apartment)...so when she began yelling for help he couldn't belive it...so she was then paralized and lost too many brain cells to properly function...
Yeah...like I said...it is a "Theory"...
My point...who knows and really who want's to know. I mean not to be rude but if it weren't such a contraversial case you wouldn'r have ever heard of her. I mean how many people die each day...and how many times are there some questions of how and when involed...and how many times do you hear about those sketchy situations that are under investigations???

She just collapsed one day. Some people say that it had something to do with an eating disorder, but no one really knows.

She collapsed and went into a coma. The doctors said it was because of her anorexia. He didn't starve her. The sin was her parents fighting to keep her alive. If I , God forbid, were ever in her condition and absolutely brain dead with no hope of any life at all, my sons and daughter in laws know my wishes. By withdrawing all external means of life support he freed her to go to God. God will bless him.

she wasn't paralyzed, she was in a coma. Think it was brought on by an eating disorder. the whole quality of life thing comes into play here; i would let my husband "starve" me if i was in that condition.
