Some Dells are made to where only Dell products can be used. Or else, I know Pioneer makes great DVD burners.

A lot depends on your personal preference in brand names. There are many good burners on the market today. Just do some research.

I would have to go with Maddog, for under 40 dollars its been the best one I have used, my last one a LITE_ON burnedout after a year, but not this Maddog

You will want want that can burn both DVD+-R, DVD+-RW and both dual and double layer DVD media.
You can get something like that (internal drive) for about $70.
*Media for DVDR (4.7GB) can be found for about 40 cents per DVD
*Media for DVDRW (4.7GB) is about $2
*Media for dual/double layer is a bit out there, can be about $9 per media...
