I am planning a trip across Europe. I am going to be traveling very rough, mostly on foot. Any advice on what I should bring, such as brands of tents, sleeping bags, etc.?

Pack light, we all have a tendancy to overload...
Take a poncho or light raincoat, summer showers could surprise you anywhere across Europe. (The poncho covers more).
If you are doing most of your travels on foot, take extra socks, they wear out a lot with hiking. Also a cap or hat to keep you from the suns hottest rays. 1 pair of pants, 1 nice shirt to match (with a tie if you intend to have a posh night out somewhere along the line), and a jacket. 1 nice warm sweater, 2 pairs of jeans. And sufficient underwear. Take at least 2 pairs of comfortable hiking shoes, and change them often...this helps keep your feet in good shape. Take some cool t-shirts and shorts, at least 1 towel and swimwear. Also a small bag with things for your personal hygiene...
Remember, you'll probably buy things along the way, maybe a t-shirt or two, souvenirs, etc. You might take along an extra folding bag in the bottom of your main bag, for your trip home...keep it folded up until needed.
Get yourself a pup tent, and a good sleeping bag...and off you go!
Have a good trip!

(I have presumed from your avatar that you are a male person, if not, change the tie and shirt for a lightweight wrinkle-proof dress or two, they don't take up much space. The rest would be the same for both male and female)
P.S. Drink a lot of water during your hikes...There is excellent and inexpensive mineral water all over Europe. Always have a bottle with you.
