US laws and the Geneva convention prohibit torture.
I suppose that can be defined differenty by every one, but limits are there to the least degree.
It appears that you have asked a legitimate question but then attached it to politics.
Which one do you want to discuss?
To confine my reply to "torture" let me have a shot. OK?
I, or no one with any sense or having a brain the size of an Amoeba, would/should, ever post in public if one knows, what happened to the last two Marines that were captured and executed. Death was the greatest blessing that could have been bestowed to them.
That said, read history. The most successful tactic in war is to perform the most horrific acts that anyone can imagine. Those two Marines suffered heretofore unknown torture Hitler or Japan never did that in all their worst. By committing the worst, the intent is to make the enemy lose their taste for war.
IT STILL WORKS!

The religious and philosophical consensus is that torture is wrong. Also, studies have found that torture for the purpose of extracting information bears extremely inconsistant results and is thus, unreliable at best. As for what my president believes, I can only say what i think he SHOULD believe on the basis of the constitution of the United States of America and his claim to be a Christian. As an American and a follower of the teachings of Christ as told in the Bible he should not only oppose torture, but act out against it with fervor.

I believe the Geneva convention allows torture...
Do you know they think it is humane to keep someone up for 7 days without sleep. Almost drowned a person..!!! then bring them back...over and over again
This is more than a political question!!!
I am surprised that people in the US think the president has some much control...
May be "you", because you ask the question, may have never been the boss who is blamed for every thing his ...lower inklings do.ie...Congress!

No, and for your information, as of today, Bush was ordered to obey International Law to observe the Geneva Convention in treatment of war prisoners. Any torture of prisoners is reverting back to Hitler's days.
Even worse when prisoners haven't even been charged after years of detention. Our President has done more to damage this country than any President in history. He is a puppet mouth little jerk!

No I don't think that torture is acceptable in some countries but, they do it anyway, for instance my grandson, was tortured, so he would confess to killing a newspaper editor in Mexico, How? they used their fists, legs, and finally placing a double plastic bag, over his head until he would pass out. They kept doing that for four times until he said that he did killed that guy, as soon as they transferred him to a prison he recanted and what they did to silence him, some four or five prisoners stabbed him 84 times all over his body. You tell me is torture acceptable,in some countries yes it is. Is it acceptable by the president? we will never know, only God knows

Definitely not, but Bush seems to think so. At least he doesn't want a law that says the armed forces can't torture. The only reason someone wouldn't want that law was because they actually wanted the armed services to torture soemone.

Tough choices have to be made.
If presented whit the choice of mass murder, say with a nuke or nerve gas, or torture someone for the details to prevent it, a leader or President would be irresponsible to just let the attack happen.

They only thing the idiotic terrorists understand is pain and torture. Do you really think we can solve all of these problems in Iraq and other spots in the world by negotiating with these fools?

i believe in the bible saying, an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.
i believe that those who have tortured us, should get tortured back.
think about all those familes of the victims of 9/11.
they will be tortured for the rest of their lives after loosing someone to the terrorist attacks on this country by "them"
( you all know who im referring to )
how many of our soldiers have been terrorized by being taken hostage? as far as one can remember, back to the wars of the yesteryears?
how many of the people of the United States of America are still being terorized by dreams, and disturbing mind flashes, and sleepless nights, all caused by a traumatic event concerning the wars of out country?
How many children are born in to this world with out reliable parents or a chance to live? <-----torture
i could go on and on, but realize that torture is not always a physical act.
as far as George W goes, hes from Texas. So am I.
and in the famous words of Ron White, of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour
"If you kill someone in Texas, we kill you back! other states are working to abolish the death penalty, Texas is putting it in the express lane."
DONT MESS WITH TEXAS
