I don't know about Pfizer yet, but there's another pharmaceutical company they're helping in a huge way. Rosche, Donald Rumsfelds company, is the company that makes Tamiflu. The Republican controlled congress passed a bill, that President Bush (the head of the Republican Party) signed last November, that requires the Federal Government and all 50 states to stockpile 7 billion dollars worth of Tamiflu to treat a Bird Flu outbreak. Not only does a human transmissable Bird-Flu not exist, but Tamiflu doesn't work against that strain of virus (H5N5). According to WebMD, "Tamiflu and Relenza can be used both to treat and to prevent flu infections. Although the H5N1 flu has developed Tamiflu resistance in some treated individuals, this is not unexpected. And flu viruses resistant to Tamiflu don't spread very well." So either the cure doesn't work, or the disease isn't a problem. Fortunately, Mr. Rumsfeld make a great deal of money, however, so it wasn't a total loss.

Why do you even think this? Your question posits as fact something that is a giant assumption.

Just curious. Why do you believe, apparently, that Republicans are so scheming and evil? Republicans freed the slaves. Republicans passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Republicans, more recently, have lowered the unemployment rate to the lowest it's been in a decade. New home sales are skyrocketing. Average income is up. They can't be ALL bad.

I don't know about Republicans, but Canada is making US drug prices skyrocket. Since they have govt provided healthcare, the Govt is the only one buying drugs, and they fix prices to legal limits the companies are allowed to sell for in their country. The company meanwhile has to divide the R&D cost out over the number of pills it expects to sell. So if you reduce the price of some you have to make it up on others, those being the ones sold in the US. I don't know a good solution for this, except paossibly a trade dispute, but if Canada doesn't pay its fair share, American seniors will continue to chose between food & life saving drugs in subsidizing Canadian Health Care.
