I have a partial PCL tear in my right knee as well as some partal tearing of the MCL complex from a fall off of one of my horses. I have seen a ortho doc who is pushing me for rehab over surgery. The athletic trainer I have been seeing in rehab says that the PCL doesn't heal well and the next time I get thrown I could end up blowing out my entire knee. I should also mention that I ride and train horses for a living so getting thrown isn't a question of if, more of a question of when. Do I take the 6 months off now and get it fixed or do I go the rehab route and hope for the best.

most doctors recommend physical therapy before surgery to see if rehab will fix it, it also helps if you happen to need surgery in the recovery afterward. talk to your ortho doctor about what the athletic trainer said and about your risks about blowing out your knee

The PCL's role in the knee is to stop the femur (thigh bone) from moving forward on the tibia (leg bone). The MCL's role is to stabilize the inside of the knee. The ligaments are not highly vascularized which means it will take a while to heal.

But the tears are partial, and not full, which is in your favor. Rehab will make your muscles stronger and your physical therapist can educate you on your physical activity to avoid further injury.

However, if you do not improve, get worse, or are still not confident about your orthopedic surgeon's advice, you can try getting a second opinion from another orthopedic surgeon. I have great respect for athletic trainers but remember that they do not have the same level of education as your doctor who specializes in orthopedics. Remember, the doctor earns more money if you have surgery, so why wouldn't he recommend it if you really needed it?

My cousin also got her knee surgery for acl repair in India through the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.
She used to be in constant pain--her pain has almost gone by 90% now-she says

Orthopaedic surgery is very cheap in India. This company is very famous in India that arranges orthopaedic surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as all surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your hip surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.hope this helps
