Gala, you are spouting the common creationist misconception that humans evolved from apes. This is not true at all. Rather, humans share a common ancestor with apes. Also, there have been findings of humans much older than 6000 years old.

How do you define a modern man?
After the flood, Noah with his sons Shem, Ham and Japheth and with their wives inhabited the earth. They then went around the globe to put up colonies. Of course, Shem had his sons and so with Japheth and Ham.
The first civilization was in Babylon and the first king was Cush. Cush was also the 1st Pharoah. Then civilization went onto Egypt and so on. Colonies or the sons and daughters of Noah's sons settled in Italy, in Germany, in Africa in Sweden, in France and so on. Archeologists were surprised to find that the writings found then were so advanced, i.e., without mark of language development. Cush' son Nimrod became the 2nd Pharoah. Man's intelligence thousands of years ago shined not only today. Man easily adapted to his environment and used his intelligence.
It is God's creation and not evolution that we are here today.
When you speak of modern man, you may be referring to the evolution theory which was just a man's imagination, i.e., the homo sapiens or the modern man they call.
Man did not come from apes. God created man.

When God created him on the sixth day of creation as Adam. That was 6000 years ago.
Noah's ark existed first about 4500 years ago. His son Japheth was the father of the white races, Shem was the father of the Hebrew race, and Ham was the father of the black or dark skinned races according to archeology and geneology and scripture. Ham's decendents migrated to Africa, Japheth's to the northern regions of europe and scandinavia, and Shem's to the middle east or Jerusalem round about.
Evolution has only existed in the mind of man since the late 1800's. The word of God is as old as time. Or at least since Moses wrote the first 5 books.

Fossil evidence suggests Neandertals disappeared about 40,000 years ago, but our species appeared earlier than that.
